Ruth’s Write:OutLoud Review
By: Ruth Cox, Washington

Version: Write:OutLoud SE. Product Setting: Self-contained classroom. Skill Development: Attain and comprehend.

For the most part, I use this product so that students are able to have a second way to edit their papers. Many students do a grammar and spell check, but leave out words and/or punctuation. This process helps them to catch more of their mistakes before they turn in their work to me or to general education teachers.

LG Write:OutLoud Review
By: Reviewer from Illinois

Version: Write:OutLoud SE. Product Setting: Resource Room setting in an elementary School. Skill Development: I use this product to improve grammar, word choice  and organization of thought.

I used Write:OutLoud with an upper elementary student who struggled writing complete sentences with correct grammar. The student often missed errors when self-editing. Being able to hear what she wrote made a big difference in her writing. Finally, she was able to realize what she was writing was not what she was thinking. She was able to make big improvements in her written work using this product.

Mt. Pleasant’s Review
By: Reviewer from California

Version: Write:OutLoud SE. Product Setting: Currently, the READ 180 classes in special education and in the general education classes are using the Co:Writer and Write:OutLoud programs. The ELD teachers are starting to use it in their classes as well. Science is piloting it with one teacher to determine how well it will work to do lab write ups.

Skill Development: These products are geared to improve writing across the curriculum. Many students have difficulties with structure, vocabulary, and spelling. When the students hear and see what they have written, it allows them to have a better understanding of their improvement areas. The teachers are using the products as a way to give instant feedback on writing assignments.

Using Write:OutLoud in the Testing Process
By: Reviewer from Illinois

Version: Write:OutLoud SE. Product Setting: I use this product both in the standard and resource classroom. Skill Development: I use this product to help improve my resource students testing scores for all academic areas.

I have using this product for many years to assist students in the writing and reading process. I scan my students weekly academic tests and then copy and paste it into Write:OutLoud. My students can then take their tests on the computer and it will be read to them. This allows them to take ample time to complete and not worry about decoding the words but concentrating on the correct answers. I find my students know the answers if the tests are Read:OutLoud but each differs in how many times each question needs to be read. I have found that for my ADD, Dyslexia and LD students their scores have gone up dramatically. Thank you for making such a wonderful program for kids to be success.
